Most students dislike standardized testing and have difficulty in recognizing the value of the testing they undergo each year. Earlier this year, several dozen eighth grade students at Seneca Middle School voluntarily sat for the PSAT test, the same test most students take as tenth and/or eleventh graders. Twenty-nine of those eighth graders recently learned that their scores may have some direct value for them. Their high scores earned them the designation as South Carolina Junior Scholars and with it many offers of summer enrichment programs from colleges and universities across the state.

The Seneca Middle School students named Junior Scholars are: Caroline Black, Jake Brodie, Abbi Burgess, Alexis Burson, Ellie Canon, Andrew Crooks, Emily Douglas, Josh Drake, Logan Durham, Tyson Gentry, Garyson Goforth, Charles Griffin, Joshuah Haymond, Colton Hires, Bailey Holder, Jordan Jimenez, Trent Land, Cara Martin, Micah Moulder, Tucker Norris, Logan O’Kelley, Jocelyn Pronovost, Hayden Rogers, Allan Ross, Isabella Shadwick, Taylor Smith, Tyler Westmoreland, Merlyn Wood and Max Zavaleta.
