SMS Band Director Jason Ray was pleased recently to learn that a number of his band students have earned spots in both the All-Region and All-State bands for South Carolina middle schools. In order to be named to the region band, they competed with hundreds of students from Oconee, Greenville, Spartanburg, and Pickens counties. Six Seneca Middle School Band students were named to the region band: Rylee Williams (flute) - 8th Chair, Shreya Santhanam (flute) - 1st Alternate, Ansley Brock (clarinet) - 8th Alternate, Elise Halbig (horn) - 6th Chair, Kolby Scruggs (tuba) - 7th Chair, Gregory Adams (percussion) - 1st Chair. They will attend the Region Clinic and concert on February 24 at Furman University. Based on their All-Region auditions, several were called back for further auditions for All-State Band with two students making the cut - Rylee Williams (flute) - 3rd Alternate and Bailey Walters (tuba) - 7th Chair. They will attend the All-State Clinic and concert at Furman on March 10.
